Reading these words gave me pause. In what ways do I "build" my own house but neglect His. I realized how often and how easily I slip into making my own plans for both the Eclectic Home school Online and my family's homeschooling, but am I building what the Lord would have me build?
The Eclectic Home school Online is a ministry of helps. I have long known that the Lord gifted me with the ability to help others fulfill their calling. In doing so it is often easy to rely on this gift rather than the giver. But if the Eclectic Home school is to succeed in its ministry, it will only be through God's guidance.
The Lord has given each of us gifts that differ from person to person. The following illustration about gifts has always struck with me. Having a particular gift is like being able to get on the elevator to go to the top of a twenty-story building. It's much harder to get to the top without the elevator, although it can be done. The person with the gift finds it easy to do the things for which they are gifted. But just as you wouldn't want to take an elevator to the top of a building for no purpose, you don't want to use your gift without guidance.
I also find it true in homeschooling that it is easy to slip into doing things my way. My children are each temples of the Holy Spirit. It behooves me to remember that and place as my top priority the building up of their spiritual man. Academics, life skills, and extra-curricular activities will all fall into place if I choose to follow His plan rather than my own.
